When I began painting “Unbridled Ascent,” I was driven by the visceral energy of breaking free—the moment the spirit decides it cannot, and will not, be contained any longer. It’s the electric feeling that precedes a leap, when the courage outweighs the constraint, and the choice is made to follow the inner fire.

The macaw, an explosion of color, became the embodiment of the unapologetic Wild Soul. Its powerful movement away from the atmospheric, almost structural backdrop is an act of defiance. That suggested, heavy atmosphere represents all the things we build around ourselves, or allow others to build, that keep us from our truest path. The unrestrained energy of the bird and the fierce light that surrounds him and reflected in the water is the answer: we create our freedom by choosing to disrupt the narrative that holds us back.

This painting is a love letter to the risk takers and the trailblazers—the ones who understand that the biggest, most limitless futures are forged in that single, bold decision to rise.
